When in a board school near Paris , I used to practice some Alpine Ski as every February we the entire school moved to the Alps for a month-long winter class. It was good as it always preceeded the Easter school holidays ! Since then, I never practiced again as every single thing is expensive ;
-ski equipement
-clothing and shoes
-pass for using as often as possible the facilities enabling downhill skiing
-accomodation
-food
-getting there, cutting a long story short,
one week in the Alps = 10/12 days somewhere in NorthAmerica .
Regards
Alain

I don't ride ski or something else. Dislike sport very much. Only thing I do is going on my bike, but it's defect since a half year.
just my two cents

I used to go skiing once a year up until about eight years ago. Skiing down here in the South is different to say the least. One week, the resorts will be closed because they had a warm spell that melted the snow. The next week, they'll be back open again, with all trails open. I wouldn't mind going skiing again, but I'm not sure my knees would be up to it. The last time I went skiing, I tried out snowboarding and got bored with it after falling down 10 times in 5 minutes, and this was on the bunny slope. There are some small resorts within a 2-3 hour drive from my house, but the better ones are abut 4-6 hours away.

I went snowboarding for a whole day with my class in eigth grade. It was prety fun. After an hour or two of instruction I was finally able to keep my balance while going down the hill. I remember when my friends and I went up to the very top of the mountain to go snowboarding down it, we all went down except three of us who were going like 5mph down the hill, one of which included me :P , and when I looked back at another one of my friends, who was also new at snowbaording, he started down the hill and then tripped over a mound of snow, did somewhat of a summersault and landed on his face. Pretty funny to say the least. The only bad part about that trip, was that I had a badly sunburned face the next couple of days
