Thank you for visiting and reading.
In addition to President Hu Jintao's state visit starting next Monday
(the charriot is to be a CA 744, due to land at ORY) Paris treated itself to something special during Chinese New Year.
Today, the Champs Elysées Avenue was used for merging the yearly parades otherwise held separatly by the Teochew, Wenzhou and Dong Bei communities in their respective locales, respectively Chinatown in the XIIIth District in the south eastern part of the city , Belleville (opposive from Chinatown !) and again Belleville for the otherwise impoverished Dong Bei, who rarely mingle with the Wenzhou.
Starting at 2 pm sharp and involving 7,500 support artists, 1,000 professional artists, 54 theme trailers and 12 giant totems, each standing for a zodiacal sign , the parade stretched from Arch of Triumph mega roundabout of Etoile Plazza to the next roundabout marking the other end of the avenue, while across the street and going on the opposite direction, was a batallion of kites and baloons players. Ironically, one of the theme cart came straight from Beijing to put forward the 2008 Olympics, which Paris ultimately lost.
The corner stone was however a 110 meter long dragon, needing 8 flatbed trucks coming along with 25 operators under to move it.
Specially prepared in China and shipped by sea, this dragon according to Ling Yang, head of the society of Chinese residents in France, is the longest ever made.
Effective today at 7.30pm, the Eiffel Tower will be lit in red until next Thursday.
