  • Soft Drinks- Past and Present

    Hi,

I've tried to shake off my 'newbiness to this site' until I have made some contributions and shown my name around here for a while. So, that being mostly done I've decided to post my first topic question

Whatever happened to the old soft drink (cola) varieties? I know there is still CocaCola and Pepsi and that but whatever happened to Mello Yellow, Tab and that (any you can think of). I really miss TaB I grew up with the stuff and now I can't find it in Australia...

Is TaB still available in the US? Or anywhere in the world? I know that about 10 years ago in Australia TaB clear was available but it disappeared too.

I can't even remember what TaB tastes like. Is that a good thing? Does anyone know where I can get some of the older softdrinks?

From all I know, here in the states Mello Yellow is still around. I want to know what happened to the ubercola, Surge. Coke could have kicked the crap outta Mountian Dew if they had kept Surge around a little longer.
    It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand.

TAB's still around, you just sometimes have to hunt for it, as not all grocery stores carry it. The colas I miss were the clear colas of the early 1990s. I actually liked TAB Clear and Pepsi Clear, just wish they would have been more successful. Another one that I liked was the short-lived Josta, that one helped me on those occassions I had to go into work real early in the morning.

I haven't seen TAB for a long time here in the Bay Area. I still see RC Cola once in awhile, but not as much as I used too. I remember as a kid buying soda in returnable bottles, not plastic or cans! I miss the returable bottles!

Anyone remember Pepsi Blue? Did they get rid of it? I actually liked it...

                Thanks for all the replies

I miss TaB !!! In fact, there are many things that I miss from 10 or so years ago. 1cent lollies are one of them (budlets i think they were called, they were chocolate and icing sugar drops about the size of a large fingernail).

I was brought up on TaB (well not reared, rather it had a fairly strong presence in my home). I'm not sure but maybe it was banned in Australia or something? Anyhow I miss it.

There is a place on the internet where you can order it from California (in Pacoima, it'll show up in a search) but the shipping costs are pretty astronomical (around the $400 Australia mark if my sums are correct) so I don't think i will be splurging out on some nostalgia. hahaha

                Thanks for the replies

They still sell TAB at the local Kroger stores here in Little Rock. I'm not sure about Mellow Yellow. I think you can get it here too.

I just saw TaB at the grocery store today, and I was so excited....and my friend looked at me funny.

                        I don't think I've even tried TaB.

                        Go figure.

Yeah, Thums up was great. I think they still sell Limca and Thums up in some places.

                              Re:

you can still get Limca and Thumbs Up pretty easily in Mumbai, just depends on which area ur in. Gold Spot's also not too bad.

As far as RC Cola goes, it's around in abundance here in Oklahoma, just walk around to any conveneince store and you'll find it.
