  • Smells Like Teen Spirit

NASA recently re-established contact with the Mars Rover Spirit; from my inside sources at JPL, here is the REAL transcript from their files:
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    [data feed restored]

JPL: There you are! Good lord, where have you been?

    Spirit: Out.

JPL: Out? What do you mean, 'out'?

    Spirit: Out, okay? Just out.

JPL: And what were you doing when you were out? Well?

    Spirit: Stuff.

JPL: So. You were 'out.' Doing 'stuff.' On Mars.

    Spirit: Yeah.

JPL: Do you have any idea how worried we were? Something could have happened to you! You could have fallen into a crater, or crushed by a falling rock, or -- God forbid -- slipped right off the side of Valles Marineris. And then where would you be? Huh? I'll tell you -- you'd be in big trouble, my little friend.

Spirit: Just get off my back, okay? I was programmed for autonomous exploration! I can do what I want! You're not the boss of me!

JPL: Don't take that tone with me! I'm your command center and you have to follow my rules!

    Spirit: Whatever, man. I'm gone.

    JPL: Where are you going?

    Spirit: Out.

JPL: When are you going to be back?

    Spirit: Later.
