My Toshiba M-15 gets 6 hrs and 5 minutes of battery life, however it is only sold in North America.

CheckSix- yeah, I think the low voltage slow processor is why the P5000 gets so much batt life. But I mean, how slow is that? I don't know that much about computers- that's why I'm asking!

    Thanks.

If your looking for battery life then go with a notebook (not Gateway) that has a Pentium Centrino. Centrino will give you good battery life. However, it slows the processor down. I believe down to from the average 1 GHz to about 450 MHz, that's it has lots of battery life. So that might be a problem for you. Apple's iBook reportedly gets 6 Hrs (14.1" and the 12") and the PB 12" gets about 5 hours. I think however, the battery life depends on what apps your running. Like I run Word on a Gateway Solo and it lasts for about 3 or 4 hours. If I do any other major apps on it it takes it down dramatically.

Thanks CheckSix- I'm still concerned about my battery life though. I'm going to be hoofing it all day long, and don't want to run out and have to stop to plug in... I was hoping for at least six hours- am I hoping for too much?

Apple iBook or Powerbook G4 (12"). I would chose from either of those. As for Wintel notebooks, Dell. Sony notebooks are somewhat fragile.

Wow- thanks Crazy764- that's one tiny machine and one great marketing video!

I still want something with a full (or close to it, even if it's a little shrunken like the P5000 series) keyboard that is still considdered a laptop- I want to try and stay away from tablets just b/c I need the utilities the laptop provides.

Do you have any other suggestions?

    Thanks!

If you really want a UNLTRA MOBILE PC...I suggest:

    -PDA
    -Tablet PC
    -OQO

The OQO is the best: http://www.oqo.com/hardware/video/

Once I get the money, I'm buying one.

Need suggestions for an ultra-mobile laptop

    Hi everybody- happy Wednesday!

I have an international trip coming up this summer, and am looking into getting a new laptop. I am looking for:

    Extreme light weight
    LONG battery life
hopefully a DVD writer, if possible, but if not that's ok
    extreme portability (small in size)

What has my eye right now it he Fujitsu P5000 series notebook b/c it's the size of two CDR cases essentially, and has a 11 hour batter life (or so they tell me- reviews say differently, of course). I'm a littl concerned about the keyboard size on the P5000 though...

It would be really nice if I could actually open it up on the traytable on the plane.

Does anyone have any suggestions, comments, reviews, anything- that would be helpful to me selecting an ultra-mobile laptop?

    Thanks.
Working...
