  • Temp in Australia/NewZealand during June

Hi all- going 'down under' this summer, and am wondering how I should pack. Being that it'll be summer up here in the US in June, and winter in the southern hemisphere, how nippy does west coast Australia, and New Zealand get during June (June in the northern hemisphere, I mean- I do'nt know if June is considdered summer or winter down there. Do months remain the same throughout the world regardless of season/hemisphere?)? Thanks!

In June you are hitting our Winter! only just though. It just depends where are you stopping? Up north you will experiance very hot humid weather DARWIN. But all around it is in teh 20's with some rain

i'm from Christchurch in New Zealand, summer here ends in 5 days, going into autumn, June is pretty nippy. Austrailia almost always gets warmer temperatures than new zeaand, at any time during the year. So if u end up coming to nz in june, leave your shorts at home specially if you are coming to south island. At christchurch in june a lot of the days are frosty, in the morning, and from christchurch city your only an hour or so from the southern alps, with lots of ski fields and snow!

while im here just one more thing, winter on australia's east coast is like Nz's summer if not hotter. I'm pretty familiar with australia's east coast climate, and it is short and t-shirt weather all year round pretty much there. Wheras winter in nz is really winter, in terms of temperature.

Interestingly enough, that's also when I'm moving to New Zealand.

A340_flyer- will you be on the LAX_Brisbane flight on 6/4? I'll be in the back with the rest of the kids in stonewash blue polo shirts. Hope to see you onboard!

Ansett- I think I'm adapted to the heat (even though I don't like it that much)- I live in Arizona, and temps here get over 120F in the summer sometimes, usually in the 110s though. I prefer cold and rainy weather like England though. God save the Queen!

Thanks for all your help guys- I thought it would be a lot colder...now I can finish my shopping spree!

Ah, yes. June here is June there, etc. There are some exceptions, though. Ethiopia, for example, operates on a 13-month calendar (12 30-day months and one 5 day month (6 days in leap years)). But Ethiopia's differences are not based on their hemisphere or season...

Just like in the U.S. it depends where you are. Like Ansett said, the Australian winter can be cold (although nothing like the cold in the northern U.S. and Canada) with temperatures around the 40s(F). The south can be fairly cool and rainy but there is only snow in the mountains. The north (i.e., Queensland, NT, northern WA) can be quite hot and humid as they are in the tropics. NZ falls into the same category of weather as southern Australia, however a little cooler.

Airigami- thank you for explaining the "June here, June there" concept- that was of great assistance!

I really appreciate you all helping me out- You've given me exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much!
