Hi guys, I'm hoping for some help. A few members have been stating that the newest CSA and AirAsia A320 deliveries are -216s, however I cannot find any reference on Airbus' webiste to suggest they have produced a -216 variant. The latest I can find is the -214.
Has anyone seen any reference to a -216 (disregarding a.net!)?
Actually, there is a difference. People! You must not forget my A320 Tech site! Its not done yet, but Im pulling information off of the amded A320 page.
Here is the information your looking for AJ.
Variants
All A320's can have the "M" designation (A320M) for the overwater capabilities (VHF Radios, proper escape slides).
A320: Normal pax configured A320
A320M: Overwater capable A320
A320-111: No winglets, lower MTOW and range, CFM56-5A1 engines
A320-211: CFM56-5A1
A320-212: CFM56-5A3
A320-214: CFM56-5B4 (-5B4/P, -5B4/2, or -5B4/2P)
A320-216: CFM56-5B6
The -216 varriant is powerd by the CFM56-5B6 engine which has a total thrust of 23,500lbs.
There is quite a visual difference between the -211/-212 and -214/-216 in terms of Engines. The CFM56-5A has a longer spinner, but the -5B has a shorter one but with a longer casing and a 4-stage boster intake, which ads one more set of vanes compared to the -5A and makes the engine a bit bigger. On the outside, the engine is slightly larger, but once you look in the intake, youll notice right away.
Im not sure if you know, but the last two digits in the Airbus model name (IE A340-211, A330-343X) have to do with the specific engine model on that aircraft.
Back to the topic though: CFM lists the 56-5B6 only for the A319. Not up-to-date perhaps?
Cheers, Gerardo
Ahh your the first to notice!
This Airbus A320-216 is essentially cheaper than the -214. The engines on the -216 are de-rated to the most powerful commercial CFM engine avail on the A319. This gives this specific A320 less range and a lower MTOW.

Found out that 5J's 319's are HGW's. Amazingly powerful svckers. Outperformed its big brother 320's.
