Those levers have a connection to the Irish Sea.....
The throttle levers are connected to Rolls Royce Conway engines. Rolls Royce name engines after rivers. The Conway is in North Wales and is connected to the Irish Sea.

The VC-10 was used as the test-bed for the RB-211 and was flown in a 3-engined config, the 2 Conways on one side & the other two replaced by a single RB-211.
