            • Probably the smallest part of an aircraft featured on this thread yet;

              But, I dont think it'll last long as its a well known small part of an aeroplane.....

              • Over a week and no-one has even taken a guess............

                Posting more of the picture would give it away completely so a text clue......

                This infamous part of an aeroplane has a connection with the Columbia River.

                    • Boeing 727

                      Boeing 727?

                      Okay, I think that's a bit of stretch because if doesn't look like anything that they would attach to a 727, but my logic is this.

                      a) Associated with the Columbia River
                      b) Infamous Part
                      c) D.B. Cooper
                      d) Money found along Columbia River
                      e) He opened and leapt off of the aft stairway of a 727 in flight (with $200K U.S., a parachute and then into fame/infamy)
                      f) Therefore, this is part of the aft stairway that he leapt from
                      g) Logically therefore, 727

                      or not

                      Lurking at JP since the BA 777 at Heathrow and AD lost responsiveness to the throttles.

                        Yep, the B727.

                        The picture is of a 'Cooperlock', another can be found here;

                          My first thought when I guessed what the image was "crap, that's not supposed to happen, since I didn't have the foggiest idea what "Cooperlock" looked like. Who'd want to dirty up a nice plane like a 727 like that?"

                          Richard, if you wouldn't mind, could you provide another image? I would appreciate it as I am leaving for Phoenix/Palm Springs soon and I won't be back until mid-March. I wouldn't think it fair to provide a picture and then not respond for the better part of two weeks to anyone who might have a guess. I'll provide an image when I return if that's okay.

                          I feel a bit like an Oscar winner who doesn't expect to win, so they don't have a speech prepared.

                          Kind regards
