  • Rudder question

I've noticed this quite a bit, but why is the rudder usually kicked over to one side when jets are parked?

    That's a nice shot, btw.

Not sure how they're controlled, but if it's hydraulic, then there's probably just a release of pressure which forces the rudder to one side.

When parked the Hydraulic Systems are turned off, so the control surfaces are free to move. The wind will usually determine which side they sit.

Its interesting to see when the split rudder on the big jets splits different ways... looks rather odd!

The other interesting thing is when you look at an Airbus vs Boeing when shut down... the Boeing Ailerons are connected, so sitting on the ground one could be up, the other then down.

Airbus aircraft there is no mechanical linkage, so both ailerons sit down... which looks very counter intuitive.

I hadn't noticed the rudders, but i've been wondering about the ailerons. Thanks.
