Lots of airlines are charging employees to nonrev. If your friend lists for the jumpseat, I think that doesn't cost anything depending on the airline.
I commute also, and if I was charged for it, I'd just quit.
Not much freedom in being a regional airline pilot. Schedules suck, work rules suck, not enough time off, etc. It's a means to end though, and pays the bills for the most part. You won't be driving a new Vette though....
Emu, come on over. Things are about to get very good, or the company is going to fold. We should know whether or not our flowthrough is going to work out by the end of the month. If it does, it might be the last job you ever have with a decently quick upgrade and a job at mainline in a few years.
