The "Jake The Fake" clue refers to jake having an extra leg in the Rolf Harris song.
The Isle of Man has a circular three legged symbol on it's flag.

Judging from the overwhelming response, I feel another hint or two is required:
The runway is rather short.
No longer in use, it has not yet been decided what to do with it.
My apologies for the first hint which said there are lots of military operations. I should have said there WHERE lots of military operations. I hope this did not confuse you guys too much.

Some more hints then:
It used to be operated by the US military. Largest plane to fly here was a C-130, but those flights can be considered experimental.

Hmmmm ??????
Emphasis on a short runway...fires...C130 experimental mission....uncertain future ???
I may be way off the mark but I have a feeling that you, my devious friend may be talking about the the decommissioned aircraft carrier.....
The USS Forrestal ?
They once landed a C130 there, there have been a couple of fires especially the one the that killed 134 sailors when a missile cooked off on deck, the future of the boat is uncertain......and you can't get a much shorter runway !!If it 'ain't broken........ Don't try to mend it !
