          • No. Not Mustang Beach. Forget about fighters. This airfield also has a connection with chewing gum.

Think "Chewing Gum". Who makes it ? They once owned this airfield.

                    • I knew it probably had to do with Wrigley from the beginning. Although my focus surely wasn't directed toward the "flying boat" in question and I sort of didn't search too thoroughly for my first answer. A simple search in Google using the terms "Wrigley chewing gum airport" brings up the fact that Wrigley used to own Santa Catalina Island, including the airport. Which is the name of the plane in question also.

                      Catalina Airport

                        • This airport was home to a squadron during WW2 that fought the Nazi's and was occupied and used by the Nazi's for a while also. Today it is home to 20 airlines, none of the destinations are seasonal only. Its only runway is just over 12,000 feet long.

That describes pretty much every airport in continental Europe as well as North Africa that the allies did not bomb badly enough to be rendered beyond repair upon liberation.

                              • Exactly.

But not every airport has exactly 20 airlines and a 12,000 something foot runway either.

It was built in 1936. It belonged to the Soviets. That should narrow it down a lot.
