Tyndall Air Force Base.
Named after 1st Lt Frank Tyndall, 1st war ace.
Initially a gunnery range. ( gunshy ? )
Trained air defence pilots and was responsible for the air defense of virtually all of the southeastern United States during the 1960s and 1970s.
HQ of NORAD Southeast Air Defence Sector.

So close, Brian, but not quite. You could probably fly there in less than an hour from Tyndall, especially in a Raptor. And I said "For a short time after it opened, it was named for a WWI pilot from the area." But no longer...KC-135: Passing gas and taking names!
