    • Dyess Air Force Base?

      EDIT: Or maybe Vance AFB?

      • If you venture a short distance from this airfield, you might find yourself a little gunshy.

          • Tyndall Air Force Base.

Named after 1st Lt Frank Tyndall, 1st war ace.

            Initially a gunnery range. ( gunshy ? )

Trained air defence pilots and was responsible for the air defense of virtually all of the southeastern United States during the 1960s and 1970s.
HQ of NORAD Southeast Air Defence Sector.

Trains F22 Raptor pilots ( the prehistoric connection ? )

            • So close, Brian, but not quite. You could probably fly there in less than an hour from Tyndall, especially in a Raptor. And I said "For a short time after it opened, it was named for a WWI pilot from the area." But no longer...

              • Bergstrom Air Force Base?

                • Bergstrom? Not a bad guess, it does meet some of the clues, but it is no longer a military base. Brian was closer with Tyndall, but was looking in the wrong state.
