  • Hi Denis,

Aperture, ISO and shutter speed (and exposure compensation of those) still matter in RAW. The other settings like in-camera sharpening etc generally do not apply. You'll have to take care of those yourself as you process the RAW into a picture.

    Regards,

    Alex

  • Hi Rod, I'd like to add something here. JPEG is a compressed file format, which makes it small in size. This is why websites, including this one, use it. Shooting in RAW will not guarantee no issues with JPEG compression since you will have to save in JPEG sooner or later. Make sure to shoot in best quality JPEG that your camera allows (max resolution/file size) and save in best quality JPEG when you process.

  • Hi Steve, can you show an example of a photo of yours that has the issue? For the purposes of our hobby here avoiding JPEG compression is usually a matter of dialing back noise reduction and making sure to save at max available quality at all stages of capture and processing. Fixing a photo with compressed sky is possible but it's usually better (faster, better results, less likely to create other problems) to go back to the beginning and re-process without introducing the compression.

    Regards,
