Richard, I said with the 'successor' to the A.330, that's well a decade until we are going to see that. Then BA's 777s are due for replacement. I agree that it would make sense to replace the 767s with A332s. The RAF will be happy to take the whole fleet as their Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft to replace my favourite VC-10s .
The A380 is sure to be a great aircraft. All major airlines should have atleast one. It will give their sales a boost too, because then they can boast of having an A380.
"The Director also sets the record straight on what would happen if oxygen masks were to drop from the ceiling: The passengers freak out with abandon, instead of continuing to chat amiably, as though lunch were being served, like they do on those in-flight safety videos."
Personally, I have a model of the A380. It is quite frankly a very unnatractive looking plane. It isn't nearly as elegant as the good old 747.
As for me, I'd rather the 747 derivatives. Their on their way.
And I don't feel that every airline will benefit from having a monolith. Look at some of the US carriers. They had 747s but ditched them cause they weren't economical, they'd rather have higher frequency smaller jets.
On a 747 derivative we're bound to see a comfortable 777 style interior and advanced 777 style cockpit. And these planes will be longer, thus allowing greater cargo capacity and more revenue, or a longer range. I would expect that this plane's operating costs would be similar to that of a B744 but the higher revenue from large pax and cargo capacity would make it an extremely profitalbe aircraft. The A380, it's new, it's a blue whale with wings. It can't carry as much cargo, it's extremely large and probably costs much more to a B744 or B745/6 to own. My views.
