  • Dimming the rwy lights?

    Hello guys,

I was just wondering if the major airports have a control to dim or brighten the rwy lights? I have heard that some times they are too bright and pilots ask the ATC to dim them a bit. Or if the are too dim the ask them to brighten them.

    Is this true?

Can either be controlled by the tower or it may be pilot controlled lighting.
PCL is operated by a serious of mic clicks.

All of the lights at LAX have five steps, & are controlled in the cab by the controllers. When the runway light intensities change, the RVR has to compensate for the difference in ambient light, which it does with current sensors located in the city's power vaults.
