  • CO announces nonstop EWR-DEL, again

Here we go again... Continental has announced its intention for nonstop New York to New Delhi yet again (this is the third time).

    http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/050406/daw007.html?.v=4

Three's a charm however, and I'd say there's a very good chance they might go through with it this time... thanks to Bush & Co.

Third time? Maybe I missed something, I know it announced n/s's between BOM and EWR once and then soon after announced that those would in fact not be started. Just wondering.

      ...apparently so.

This is the third announcement of a CO nonstop NYC-India since 1999.

Enlighten me, what does Bush have to do wtih COA? Last time I checked, he was the President of the U.S.A. Not the President of Continental....

You just must be one of those silly liberals who likes to blame him for EVERYTHING.

        My bad. Carry on.

Blatant assumption is often said to be the great mother of all f^ckups... a lesson you've apparently yet to master.

That said... I jokingly mentioned that antics of the Bush administration seeing as the latest Iraq War, regardless to whether one supports it or protests it, removed many of the NFZs which would have forced this flight to traverse the some of the highest stretches of the Himalayan range.

As twinjets are typically restricted from crossing that stretch of mountain, CO's flight would've been forced to deviate even further from the Great Circle routing as a technical necessity.

That however, is no longer the case.... which is probably the reason that they've chosen to attempt the endeavor yet again.

And where would CO get the 2 necessary 777s to operate the flight? Look like another round of plane-switchingis coming, with 764s replacing 777s, 762s and 752s replacing 764s, 738s and 753s replacing 752s on domestic runs and so on.

Well as I pointed out a few weeks ago Manchester was switching froma 777 to 2x 757's, plus LGW is getting a 757. Also, AMS was losing 777 service to 2x 764's. I wouldnt be suprised to see more European routes such as CDG to turn to smaller aircraft, in order to get to more Asian Cities. When the 787's get online most European cities will probably get them, while Asia/Middle East/Africa(?) will get the bigger aircraft.

All I know what Bush do was Sell planes to Pakastan and Piss India off, I would think that is a bad thing? Other then that ATP please do NOT target people on this board. They have the right to speak their minds. Carry on then.

Is anyone else currently doing EWR or JFK to DEL service nonstop?

If they start this route how long will the flight be?

Also, do they have to use 777s on this route? Can 767s(the 400s or some of the aircraft with ER or LR designation) perform the route?
Whatever is necessary, is never unwise.

None that CO currently operates... heck, their 772ERs can't even do the roundtrip without a payload restriction. UA's 777s couldn't do the flight at all.
