  • Interesting news on NW 787 order and why they choose 787

Talking to my dad, yes laugh all you want here are the reasons why NW choose the 787 over the A350.

    1. Main reason, Airbus could not guarantee that they A350 would have the same type rating as the existing airbus's in NW fleets.

    2. Therefore, NW found that the range, guarenteed by boeing would be greater then that of the currently miss expected range that airbus has been throwing out lately

    3. That being said, it would take the same amount of time and money to train NW pilots for either aircraft.

NW will choose GE over RR, 1. No current RR engines in the fleet, 2. Typically poor economics for the RR engines.

Also, on one of the bulleton boards, the order should be announced by the end of this month for either side, that being the 787. Apparently NW has already notified Airbus that they will not be ordering the A350.

Currently sounds like 18 aircraft. NW may get some 744's or 74Advanced as part of the deal.

If that's true, it's a more important news for the 747 line than the 787 line. The order will virtually become the lifeline for the 747 line. How many of those are we talking about? Will there be any 744Fs?

Another interesting point is whether this will affect KLM's decision for the 767 replacement, now that KLM is part of Air France complicates this.

An order for both 747 and 787, that would be sweet if true. Perhaps including an order for 12 747Fs, to replace the old 742Fs. That would guarantee 747 production for a few more months.

Boeing would need another huge 747 order to convince them to keep it open.

Cathaypacifif, NWA will keep its A330's, so KLM will still have a benefit for the A330 when it replaces the 767 in august.... KLM alreayd stated that they still think the A330 is a good decision and sees the 787 and A350 as aircraft for a whole different mision...
