Talking to my dad, yes laugh all you want here are the reasons why NW choose the 787 over the A350.
1. Main reason, Airbus could not guarantee that they A350 would have the same type rating as the existing airbus's in NW fleets.
2. Therefore, NW found that the range, guarenteed by boeing would be greater then that of the currently miss expected range that airbus has been throwing out lately
3. That being said, it would take the same amount of time and money to train NW pilots for either aircraft.
NW will choose GE over RR, 1. No current RR engines in the fleet, 2. Typically poor economics for the RR engines.
Also, on one of the bulleton boards, the order should be announced by the end of this month for either side, that being the 787. Apparently NW has already notified Airbus that they will not be ordering the A350.
Currently sounds like 18 aircraft. NW may get some 744's or 74Advanced as part of the deal.
