  • Rejected :(

It took one hell of an effort to take this nightshot using only available light...

Jumped the fence of a closed public gaden with my equipment, set up tripod and stuff at different locations looking for the correct angle - then took some trial shots to check the focussing, then more trial shots to get the aperture... and then they tell me it's too dark!

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewreject.php?id=665085

Only to have it rejected because it's too dark! Why?

Aren't nightshots meant to be shot in the dark??

Every part of the helo is clearly visible, even the serial and most of the stencil data.

I'm working on a digitally more illuminated version...

I like the look of it myself...but then again, I'm not a screener.....I am sure they probably have their reasons for rejecting it. Hopefully one will post for you and shed some more light on the subject (no pun intended)

            night shots....

i screen some shots in this light condtions...............

            http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto_crew.php?id=527347

that was selected as nigth shots, now is it or is it not.......??? anyway it's possible the screener see the dark light and giv them the reason "poor lightning"

as sample for a nightshot and no discusion reasons for "dark light or night shot"

                Mark,
Have you considered a different crop (if possible).
The lighting around the rescue tender does draw attention away from the subject.
If this is the case "poor lighting" is probably the closest checkbox the screener has. Before uploading wait awhile to see if the rejecting screener makes a comment.

I would also run neat image or noice ninja over the image to remove the noise.

If you had correctly set both the aperture and the f-stop you would have had a properly exposed shot. Don't use AV or TV mode for long exposures, full manual is the key.

                    The photo is too dark.

Well, the D70 does not have TV mode - the shot was taken on manual, 15 seconds shutter time, 200 ISO.

To crop the boat away would remove the effect of the red light, and would probably leave the subject not centred.

I'll be trying to clean it up a bit more.... I believe the NightShot box was always ticked.
