What is a good, non-expensive camera to take plane pics with. I am looking mainly for good quality for long distance shots. I was thinking about a digital but I am not too sure. Any suggestions? I am new at this. Sorry if I sound like a ditz.

You have to decide firstly if you want digital or an SLR. The advantage of digital is you dont need a slidescanner and you obviously wont have to buy film and develop it. However I would go against buying a lower end digital camera and focus on something thats Sony F707 or above $700 and up. The reason, the quality will be grainier and generally way lower on longer shots. If your going to take only ramp shots thats another story. I suggest going http://www.dpreview.com/ They have good reviews on cameras..

Get a Canon D30 or a D60. Prices ranges from $2000-$3000.

FlyGirl was talking about a non-expensive camera.

What you also could do is trying to find a good, but much cheaper, second-hand camera (as I do).

That is a cheap camera, think about the costs of the Canon 1D or the D1X

I currently use an Olympus C-2100UZ.They are discontinued in stores but I have seen them on Ebay for $400-$500.They are descent cameras for the price and they have a 10x optical zoom.If you use the digital zoom you can go up to 27x but the quality of the shot will be less when you get that high.Search for "Scott Hoggard" and all pictures were taken with the C-2100.Good Luck!

Your looking for a good camera..........

Well I am also, my sister couldnt think of a Christmas present for me and I wanted a camera so I told her either a Canon Rebel 2000 ($279.00) or a Minolta Maxxum STSI ($249.00) prices may be slightly lower around you since these come with cleaning stuff, bag, strap, batteries, film, ETC.
I have seen some pictures for these cameras and they seem quite nice. I got some help from Arthur and PO over at AD and I have decided to get the Minolta. They're cheap and would be good for someone who is just somewhat getting started.

You can check them out and others.
Where do you live at? If you have a Costco near by check them out (members only though) they have both cameras I mentioned and are usually lower in price.
Good luck.
