  • Xiamen Airlines cancels 787 order, places 738 order

    China Southern Airlines announced yesterday that Xiamen Airlines will purchase 6 Boeing 737-800 aircraft from Boeing. This order will replace the order for 3 Boeing 787 aircraft by the airline. The new 737s will be delivered between 2009 and 2011.

    (Xiamen Airlines is a subsidiary of China Southern)

    On Appledaily HongKong:

    南 方 航 空 ( 1055 ) 公 布 , 旗 下 廈 門 航 空 購 入 6 架 波 音 B737-800 飛 機 , 置 換 3 架 波 音 B787 飛 機 的 訂 單 ; 6 架 波 音 飛 機 價 目 總 價 28 至 32 億 元 , 將 於 2009 至 2011 年 分 期 交 付 。 南 航 昨 復 牌 , 收 報 1.72 元 , 升 0.6% 。

    Sad to see them let go of the 787 order, but then again, it was only for 3 - what could they have really done with only 3 anyway. Good to see some more 737-800s with them. BTW, what happens to those delivery slots? I mean, will everyone's delivery be moved up or can other airlines bid for those slots?
    Whatever is necessary, is never unwise.

      i'd imagine they'd give those slots away as some sort of incentive, either to a new customer or existing customer. i can't see them just rolling everyone's orders up a little.

        Possibly also some re-direction from the parent company. Xiamen is mostly a big regional, the largest fleet members of which are 757-200s.

          The 787s will not be cancelled, probably just moved over to parent company China Southern.
