Plane crashes in Armenia's capital



YEREVAN, Armenia (AP) -- A plane carrying 21 people has crashed on takeoff from Armenia's capital, but there were no deaths reported, the head of the country's civil aviation authority said.

The plane, a Canadair CRJ-100, was heading for Minsk, Belarus, when it flipped over on the runway at Zvartnots Airport and burst into flames, Avtiom Movsesian said. He said there were 18 passengers and three crew members aboard.

He did not immediately know the airline to which the plane belonged, but Russian news reports said it was a plane of Belarus' Belavia Airlines

Spooky: There was a Challenger 850 accident in Moscow/Vnuokovo EXACTLY one year ago with eerily similar circumstances ... (flipped on take off and came to rest on it's back). Photos of the VNO accident for comparison:

Yes, they still fly Tu-134 on non-EU routes, this was the only CRJ-100 they had.

According to Belorussian media, the pilot reported that the aicraft was drifting to the left during the TO roll. After correction of this tendency with the controls the pilot desided to continue takeoff. At the altitude of 4 - 5 meters the plane has rolled to the left and hit the ground with the left wing tip, crashed upside down and burned

Actually, they had 2: EW-100PJ and the ill-fated EW-101PJ.

This is about the fourth CRJ/Challenger to have turned over on take-off in wintry conditions in recent years, with icing the main culprits in the previous cases.

are there any more reports as to actual casualties? I'm having a hard time believing no-one died from an inverted plane post take-off with a fire !
