  • Lufthansa incident at ATL

Just heard Lufthansa have had a very hard landing in Atlanta with two crew having to be taken off the aircraft on stretchers and the aircraft being grounded for damage inspection. No more details at present as news just reached me from a airline crew member leaving Atlanta now.

Dam, that must have been some pretty full on turbulence.
My thoughts are with those crewing flights out of ATL tonight....

These days, IIRC, they are using A343s. Once in a blue moon, I saw an A330 operating the route though. I think that once, I even saw and A340-600, but that might have been an SAA in the Star Alliance c/s and I might have mistaken it for an LH aircraft.

At about 2:15 p.m., Lufthansa Flight 444, was 80 miles south of Charleston over the Atlantic Ocean en route to Atlanta from Frankfurt, Germany, where the Airbus A340 aircraft suffered serious turbulence.

That's an odd place for severe turbulence.
