Some of us are old enough to remember that flight and many other amazing flights when Vietnam was falling.

The Seattle Public Library's Central Branch actually had a book that contains a chapter about that particular flight inside the Aviation Collections room. Even after reading it, and seeing this vid, it sorta seems surreal that a B721 could safely depart with over 200 pax onboard, particularly with the soldiers throwing grenades in a desperate attempt to stop it so they could board!

For anyone who's interested, the Av Collections is on the 7th floor across from the elevators.

Hard to imagine that anyone would think it could be a good thing to slow down an aircraft with hand grenades just so you can get on.

The 727-100 can easily handle the weight of 200+ pax. Legal seating arrangements are a different story.

The DC-3 had a factory seating capacity of 21 has been reported to have carried more than five times that number under emergency conditions.

On March 23, 1975, a Continental Air Services DC-3 flew from Ku Lat, Vietnam to Saigon with 98 orphan children, five attendants, and three air crew, a total of 106 people.

IMO the most surreal part of the video is the portion where the second 727 is flying in formation with the first. It looks edited, but is undoubtedly real.

During Operation Salomon (1991) a single Boeing 747 of EL AL transported 1122 "pax" from Addis Ababa to Israel, which is an all-time record for this aircraft type.

I remember this one, evacuating the Falashas Jewish community, EL AL also tasked some of the good old Seven-Os to airlift an average 350 "guests"
