According to Organizacion de Rescate Humboldt a Boeing 737-200 registered as YV102T (ex Conviasa) crashed 30 Km from Lacatunga Airport. The airplane departed from CCS and it was operating a ferry flight in which only the crew (pilot and copilot) were onboard. Conviasa dropped the use of 737-200s, and this one was being delivered to its new operator.

Accident happened during descent, around 9pm in darkness on a moonless night, in mountaineous terrain, about 35 kilometres/5 minutes from landing. I'm not in favor of unsubstantiated speculation, but I do have a guess...
Unrelated, but reportedly the aircraft was no longer under the control of Conviasa and the Venezuelan CAA. It was sold to an unnamed Honduran entity, and the ferry flight was completed under the Honduran AOC.another ADC refugeeComment
