  • Former Malaysian Service to Vancouver

    Hello,

I was reminiscing at work the other day and I remembered seeing a Malaysian Airlines B744 in Vancouver. It probably would have been like 10 years ago. Can anyone recall this service, or was it a 1-off? If it was a scheduled service Im guessing it would have been operated via Taiwan, Japan or Hong Kong. Any light on this would be great. Its driving me crazy.

    Cheers,
    Chris

I have a Jan 1998 OAG timetable and it shows MAS operating to Vancouver twice a week on Wednesdays and Fridays using a 747-400. Flight number is MH 98 and was operated via Taipei. The flight is code-shared with a Canadian Airlines flight number on it too.

The flight was dropped soon after due to the Asian financial crisis. I thought the flight was probably never profitable. I can't see a lot of people flying between KUL and YVR. YVR-TPE is a large market but competitors were operating daily flights so MH would have to compete with really low (read unprofitable) price.

Great. Thank you very much for the update. That all makes sense.
