  • Manchester this morning

    Hi all

Was at MAN this morning, and I have to say it was all very strange!

I was expecting 05R to be in use for landings due to the wind, so imagine my surprise when I walked up to the mound and there were three aircraft queuing for takeoff on 05R around the end of the runway!

ATC were sending three aircraft at a time the entire length of the runway, to loop around and then takeoff between landing aircraft. Once the holding area was cleared another three would go racing off down the runway to repeat the same process.

A pilot had a bit of a go at ATC about the palava but couldn't catch the response - but at around 10.30 the other runway opened and all was normal again.

Does anyone know what was happening, was it maintenance or something?

In this case it was a bit of "or something".

Hmmm - any idea what then?

Nothing was on the ATIS, but it was funny hearing an American pilot having a whinge at ATC!

        Thanks

In the name of Her Majesty, I am unable to divulge that information.

Yup, I think the runway is being resurfaced at the moment.
