OK, I am going to stick my newbie-neck out and hope it doesn't get chopped off!

Wow. I think you guys are being too tough on the guy. I have read a lot of his posts and I have never seen him say anything racist. That is a bit slanderous, don't you think?? I have seen him be proud of being American, not liking foreign-made products, discussing it, and making his opinion known. That does not make a racist. I would also venture to say that racists probably wouldn't choose to be pilots, you know, since they travel to different countries and deal with people of different races and cultures on a regular basis. Just let that one settle in.

He has a very good sense of humor that I think some of you are willing to dismiss because of personal disagreements with him.

Most of all, he is a very intelligent guy that is no doubt an asset to every flight deck he encounters. If you can't show him respect or like him for anything else, you should at least grant him that.

FWIW, I thought the caveman picture representing Airbus was funny. I believe it was intended to be funny and not disrespectul to anyone.

As I said before, ITS and I started off badly because of a case of mistaken identity. I am quite willing to look past all of that because he is a smart guy and although opinionated and I guess controversial, he is a great contributor to this forum. If I can get past it...you can too!

So, dear mods...is he coming back?? Give him a good Father's Day gift and allow him back!!

      Wannabe Girl,

Just bear in mind that people don't usually get banned for the posts that everyone reads... its the posts that someone makes that the Mods consider so inappropriate that they have to delete them over and over again.

What you read of ITS is a trifle blunt, but usually full of experience. The problem is he often adds in unrelated comments that are quite offensive.

This is a public forum with all sorts of people reading it, and the moderators have a responsibility to ensure that the posts are not bullying nor offensive, and some of his clearly step over that line.

There are rules here that we all have to play by... hopefully he can return and play by those rules and we'll continue to see his experience.

Indeed, but that is the problem with sheer genius. People don't appreciate it.

Now, let's get to more pressing issues - I don't like the blue tone which Delta uses on it's livery. Any comments?
warning: this post may contain traces of irony.

That's because of the use of cheap composites.

105% agree (I am not a fan of 100000%-things.. ). And congratulations on your post count, 3000+ is a good number.
The advantage of NOT being offensive is that you indeed can relax and think about the topic BEFORE you write anything. That is recommended for topics like AF447 and I don't want to fuss only because this smart Texan again did a novel on cheap composites. Imho, we can have better occasions to get our adrenalin from than writing online novels about technical issues.

Look how the number of people posting and the number of threads that are actually relevant to aviation diminished. Hopefully members will return.

ITS is incredibly smart and his knowledge of aviation is incredibly broad, JP.net was lucky to have someone of his caliber and several other high caliber members, which is why most of our discussions don't end up being pointless and incredibly stupid, as many are on the other big blue site.

Personally, there's no problem with ITS's rash posting style. Many of his posts were actually very funny. My problem with him is that a small question of his arguement's validity lead to me being continually insulted for months. Nearly, all of his racist and harrasing crap has been deleted, otherwise I would have been glad to share it.

All of these insults for what....telling him that his I love BOEING and I HATE AIRBUS comments were off-topic in the future of the Airbus A340 thread. Oops, I guess I commited a huge crime by doing that.

ITS has been banned twice in 4 months, I appreciate his intelligent arguements and don't mind his slightly abrasive posting style, but I wish that he wouldn't get all wound up and launch a barrage of insults for something so little.

              Regards,

              Rohan

When the only place you interact with someone is on an internet forum, that is all you have on which to base your opinion on that person.

I think for someone so experienced, he should spend more time sharing that knowledge and less time on useless posts that do nothing but piss off other members.

And for the record wearing earphones and a backpack while in uniform in public view is incredibly unprofessional, so you'll never see me doing it. And most of our RJs are decidedly not shiny. And I don't think sitting in my dull, worn out, dented RJ is cool. I'd much rather be at home. But it pays the bills.

Couldn't agree more. ITS is as arrogant a member as one may ever read of. But one cannot refute his knowledge of aviation whether we like the way he presents it or not.He has as much right to his opinions as we do ours The difference with ITS is that he needs his inflated ego to bolster his bloated Texas image.

ITS by himself is one thing...just about bearable(ish)...but when the whole lot of 'em get together, that's a whole different ballgame...Verbie, Half Pint etc....they were the main reason why I left AD. The sniping and idiotic behaviour used to overtake the serious threads way too often and things got a tad too personally aimed at times aswell. The lines tween humour and insult were completely blurred.

ITS and Verbie play off each other...and both do themselves a great disservice. At the end of the day they are who they are and nothing can or will change them, so banning one or other of them will be inevitable as it is the only way to rein the neck in and remember that there are those on sites like this who come to learn about aviation and aviation photography and not be humiliated or belittled at will by one or two people who should be old enough to know better.

Growing a thicker skin is fine but then why should anyone have to, people come here or any site to learn about the subject of the site and not to be treated with disrespect by one or two members who have way too much time on their hands.

I disagree. While his grammar and such may be better than mine I find his obsessive-compulsive use of bolds to be quite, rude, immature and unprofessional (much like typing in all caps all the time). I don't know if they were talking about him or not but I seem to remember a phrase that fits him and many others in here very well. I think "attention whore" describes him and some other cronies very well. I think it's fine and good to use occasional bolds in a proper context to give emphasis/accent to certain words to help convey the context of the sentence; because often sentences can be interpreted different ways. However he often overuses the bolds and sometimes seems to randomly use bold just to be an attention whore and to deliberately be irritating and make this post harder to read and more time-consuming.

I don't mind an occasional friendly jab; I often do it myself. I don't mind giving a jab that has a intellectual and/or moral point. However some of the so called "banter" that he and many other makes often in my opinion crosses the line to abuse and possibly even slander. Sometimes he like many here seem to be trolling in a very vicious sneaky way.

While I think it is fair to have good criticism/skepticism of Airbus; I feel he often crosses the line.

I think he like many here, need to grow up and be more civilized and professional.

I don't mind his use of the phrase "cheap composites" though I think it may be a slight jab I think there is some possible truth to what he says. I have been warned before before before criticizing the blind faith in plastic composites. It seems that to some plastic composites are a religion of blind faith that cannot be questioned. I feel that it is unprofessional and unscientific not to be skeptical of plastic composite materials. I know that engineers and manufacturers have worked their rear ends off researching, testing and developing new plastic composites to make them more competitive and comparable to legacy metals. However the fact remains that advanced aerospace plastic composites is a relatively new science compared to legacy metal designs. The long-term performance of plastic composites is still yet to be proven. My personal gut feeling is that it is more difficult and risky when it comes to inspection to detect things like inclusions, fatigue and cracks in such when it comes to plastic composites.

Some of the composite worshipers seem they cannot tolerate skepticism or questioning of plastic composites. Some of the composite worshipers seem to think that they themselves are the ultimate authority on plastic composites and have unabridged supernatural knowledge of plastic composites. In their arrogance and snobbishness they often seem to overlook knowledge of their skeptics. It's best to show some respect and keep an open mind to other material science specialists. Even a bricklayer knows in some cases it is necessary to leave weep holes. If composite scientists weren't so close minded, snobbish and arrogant perhaps they would've learned from other material scientists that sometimes weep holes are necessary. Perhaps then the water wouldn't have collected in a composite rudder; causing more stress by weight and by aggravating the frequency of natural oscillation and possibly stresses from the water freezing and expanding; thusly the rudder failed. I'm not sure exactly how the rudder failed; but I feel that the causes that I listed are possible and probable. I feel it probably could've been avoided by just adding a few weep holes to prevent the water from accumulating.

It seems that some of the composite worshipers have some of the same reckless arrogance and ignorance (blind faith) (PR garbage/propaganda) that claimed the Titanic was unsinkable.

I think ITS is trying to make a critical intellectual point by using the phrase "cheap composites" much like how I make critical intellectual point by using the phrase "Fascist Liberal". I think it's criticism and the truth that goes over people head; often because of their own arrogance, prejudice and desire to live life like a sword brandishing ostrich.

I think when ITS is referring to "cheap composites" I don't think he means it literally or simply. I think he means it in a figurative and abstract sense. Composites are fairly expensive; however in the long run it should amount to fuel savings, cheaper airfares and a wider profit margin compared to legacy metals. I think he means the average ticket holder is willing to take a little risk on safety to be politically correct and save fuel and have a slightly reduced ticket price. I think he means the airline industry is willing to take a little risk on safety to be more politically correct and save fuel and to increase the relative profit margins to be more competitive. The average person will say safety is priority one; and will try to pin any safety shortcomings on the industry; but the facts show that customers often vote/prove with their purchasing power for that they care more about costs than they do about safety; so industry has little choice but to follow the customer/money to stay in business.

Plastic composites have not proven themselves (as well and for as long as legacy metals) and it is quite likely that in some ways plastic composites have yet unknown inferior properties. I feel that the inspection techniques may not be quite as effective for plastic composites and I feel that plastic composites may not hold up as well to fatigue, UV radiation and some types of chemical reactions.

Read his posts and absorb the knowledge.... it you are actually interested in learning. Otherwise put him on ignore and enjoy the mindless babble.
I find your post to be mindless babble much like many here. You blindly worship ITS as if you're ITS's alias; shilling for him. He copies and pastes an article and the likes of you declare that evidence of how smart he is. So it takes a lot of skill to copy and paste? So it takes a lot of skill to plagiarize news articles? Why should I think that his post was superior; when I made a post (before his post) that said essentially the same thing that the article he cpied and pasted. I said it in my own words and language and it was all original content derived from my mind; rather than mindlessly copying and pasting/plagiarizing.

The likes of you remind me much of the Obama worshipers. Obama states that marriage should be between a man and a woman; and he receives virtually no criticism. A beauty pageant contestant essentially says the same thing; yet she is lambasted and forced to renounce her crown. There seem to be a clear double standard. Some people's opinions seem not to be driven by intellect or morality; but by prejudice and hypocrisy.

As far as I'm concerned ITS is welcome to come back and post intelligently and give honest constructive criticism; as long as he doesn't resort to his immature, overly inflammatory, and unfounded derogatory attacks that often borderline on slander. I feel if he continues as he has recently that he should be banned permanently. I feel that he isn't the only one that should be run through the reform wringer.

I agree ITS is not the only one. It seems that there are several mobs here of more than one faction. I feel that the mob mentality is detracting from the quality and intellect of this message board. I feel it is an unwanted and unnecessary distraction away from aviation. Often instead of finding intelligent and professional posts that I would expect from aviation professionals and aficionados; I find more of a South Park mentality.

I'm wondering if the trolling and controversy may be deliberate/contrived and possibly could be a matter of cooperation. It seems that some people are more concerned about the number of hits and the number of posts than they are of the content and quality of the posts and the message board. I prefer quality and intellect over quantity of garbage. Sometimes it seems almost like they are trying to start up this end fighting and controversies just to increase the number of hits and posts.

I never quite got what the big deal about this guy is. He was funny alright, an insane "Irvine-Welsh-runs-into-Kurt-Vonnegut-Jr-aviation-bent" crossbreed, but reading posts by other very knowledgeable people who are obviously in the trade, I'm reassured that his loss is by no means unrecoverable to the forum. Don poses a much bigger loss.

And being that he's been banned before yet made his comebacks, it shouldn't be long before he's back again, so why bother?
