It would be interesting to know which part of the plane was directly involved after the hydraulic failure. Anyway all's well that ends well!

The last sentence in that article is pointless: "In January, a United Airlines jetliner scraped its belly on a Newark runway after part of its landing gear failed to deploy."

What does that have to do with the price of cheese in regards to this Continental 777 incident? As if that United incident jinxed the Continental.

So I suppose the next time something happens at Newark, the ending comment in the article will refer to the Continental incident in May, as if it will have had something to do with the next said event.

Maybe the media thinks the Newark airport jinxes flights.

Continental Airlines Jet with 275 passengers and 16 crew dumping fuel over New Jersey on Sunday May 9 2010 ! Video was shot in 1080p60 mode at full 18x Intelligent…

Vimeo has the native 1080p60 video file available for download this week only.

Kathleen Bergen, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration, said only that the plane had "a hydraulic problem."

Bergen said the jet, loaded with fuel for what is normally a 14-hour flight, circled above central New Jersey for an hour to dump the fuel, making it light enough for a safe landing.

"By ‘dumping,’ it does not come gushing out of the plane," she said. "It comes out in a mist, which evaporates in the air."

About 170,000 pounds of jet fuel was released, and a strong odor led residents of several Somerset County communities to contact police and the state Department of Environmental Protection, said Lawrence Ragonese, a DEP spokesman.
Shortly after takeoff, Toyko-bound flight with 275 passengers, 16 crew was forced to return to Newark airport for emergency landing
