  • United to launch ORD-SNN seasonally...

US airline United is to operate transatlantic flights from Shannon to Chicago five days a week next summer. The airline will fly the route for three months beginning in June.

Kinda cool, and I wish them the best of luck with the route. Is the 757 capable of that route? Or will it have to be a 767 on the route?
Whatever is necessary, is never unwise.

The distance between ORD and SNN is 3,590 nm.

The B752's maximum range without winglets is around 3,900 nm.

Since UA's B752 have winglets they probably can fly this route.

Besides, UA flies EWR-TXL with B752's and that's 3,980 nm.

Anyway, I don't see enough demand to fill a B767.

I'm sure it will be a 757. We've been running 757's EWR-SNN for years and I don't think the mileage is going to be that much farther. I'm thinking they'll probably use EWR crews and route them from EWR-SNN-IAD-SNN-EWR. My gut feeling and opinion with no supporting data whatsoever.
