  • American Airlines strike again...

More crap service from American Airlines staff who seem to think that they are doing you a favour by letting you fly them.

Another example of why I will NEVER fly American.
If it 'ain't broken........ Don't try to mend it !

Not a lot of reliable facts on this story, but unless they've got some strong corroborated evidence that the lady was being uncooperative, there better be an FA out of work and a little bit better prize for the gal than $250...

...waiting for TeeVee to chime in (or perhaps he is already on the case and cannot comment due to attorney-client privilege).

And sadly, AA is in full PR mode of making a statement that tells nothing, but really can't be faulted.

I will briefly defend flight attendants- they work for companies where the management doesn't really give a rat (but of course gives practically-lying-lip-service that customer service is #1).

So, the crapped-on passengers start treating the FA's like crap and get more bold about it...

...so the FA's turn it up a notch themselves and become quick to anger in their attempts to manage jerk passengers...

It's simply over-stressed rats turning on each other.

Maybe the gal was wrong here, but the evidence (the other passenger's comments) leans the other way.

Typically passengers cheer when an unruly person is escorted off...not boo.

A couple weeks ago, I got to witness a little whizzing match between the FA's themselves on this airline...I knew too little to take sides, but it was kind of funny!

      your wish is my command...

sorry if i offend folks but here goes. fa's have been given waaaaaayyyyyyy too much authority. seriously, put lesser experienced people in positions of power and you are guaranteed to have abuse. i've gone out on a limb and ASSumed that few fa's have much management experience and aside from being fa's, little people experience.

now, to address brian, this potentially abusive attitude situation is faaarrrr from unique to aa. i was treated like dog shit flying on ba last year--in biz, and i'm exec plat/one world emerald so should be treated a notch above the average vacationing cattle class passenger--i earned it. i've been treated poorly and threatened by a SWA bitch once as well. and yes, i've had more than my fair share of mistreatment by aa's bitches (male and female).

lastly, there is a possibility that the mystery guy that took her seat was exec plat, who are guaranteed a coach class seat on any flight, even if it means bumping someone. however, if that was the reason, the fa needs to be fired immediately for completely mishandling it.

The worst treatment for me has been on BA and United both of whom I try to avoid.
Going to the Caribbean I use Thomson Premium Economy for the non stop facility and their Dreamliner comfort. Going to the US I use Air Canada with a quick stop in Toronto. Going east I use one of Emirates, Cathay Pacific or Etihad depending on the best fare available.

I should remind you of the fact that we, the consumers, tend 'only' to look at the price on 'travocity' meaning, that the airlines try to do whatever they can to squeze costs, with the occasional incident of screwed customers being economically acceptable...

Airlines suck, but we need to look in the mirror as much as point fingers.

                Just sayin'

ya know, i love how this has been turned around and now the customers are to blame for the shit that airlines do. name another industry where this is so.

                  go ahead, i dare you.

it's all bullshit. and it's all caused by whores on wall street. airlines and a few other industries, such as banks, long ago sold their souls to wall street. wall street gets rich, while flying private, of course! and the rest of the world suffers. they're so effin good at, they've got folks like some around here believing that we customers brought this shit on ourselves.

And so we've reached the never-ending circular argument. Your points are correct, my points are correct (the tolerable amount of customer screw-over is an economic calculation, not necessarily with concern for good logic nor right or wrong).

And Gabel can run Calculus on the maximum profit point between the internet price vs. the number of rampies assuring your suitcase gets on the next plane.

How the HR and PR department handles an FA dealing with Male PMS is one thing, the business of change fees, and over booking, and bumping and refunds for when the maintenance department didn't have the right light bulb in stock since that's capital that doesn't earn interest is another.

And don't start a small airline with the objective of doing things right- the big boys (and the Wall Street Advisors) will destroy you well before your first plane reaches V1.

(The fines for ramp-imprisonment have been one recent improvement, though).

Cable TV/Internet/Cell Phone. Have all dropped in price while speeds and service have IMPROVED.

Car dealerships. cars have VASTLY improved even if prices have increased they have not increased ridiculously like air travel

Health insurance. thanks to obama's failed idea (failed only because he allowed the insurance lobbyists to write the law) you are somewhat correct. however, even the dirt bag insurance execs don't have the balls to say that the inusreds asked for the changes

Don't cost me a red cent. I pay them off before the charges kick in. Anyone who uses high interest short term loan needs their bumps feeling !

                          Cable TV/Internet/Cell Phone.
All have got cheaper for me each year as a result of negotiation

Doesn't apply to me so I wouldn't know. My only live sport interest was motorsport. (past tense because I'm retired and not registered as a paramedic anymore) I got in to major events for free AND got paid for it. As a medic my passes were Access All Areas!

Car dealerships. I send my wife in to negotiate. Our last new car was listed at £16,495 for the basic model. We got it for £11,700 and that included some added extras. I felt sorry for the salesman....well, almost !

Health insurance. Thank God for a free National Health Service. !

                            Not_American Airlines

                            Many points to be made:

Big #1 is that all airlines suck. Not only to they screw you by over booking but then they mishandle the situation and let folks on the plane??? And have officers remove folks?

I might be missing something, and will re read this, but I go back to the rats trapped in a boat with nothing to eat, and eating each other. The Airlines systematically crap on passengers, they get hostile, the FA's - dealing with screwed over, hostile passengers all day, develop their own hostility.

Interesting similarities- Get off this plane, but you can go later on that plane...(If the passenger is truly being wrong, don't let them on any plane, so who is it that's wrong????)

7 Passengers??? What the heck? I dunno- maybe it was a family acting like jerks...then again, with you now paying a fee to SIT TOGETHER, and crappy mitigation when they over book you....

                              Updated.. (I changed Brian's linky)

I restate: What is the policy? Put it out there and follow it!

I restate for Gabriel: A 100-passenger flight might reasonably be expected to have about 5 people in the upper 5% of size.

I restate for TeeVee: Moderately intelligent people in authority tends to equal bad things (power corrupts).

I restate for me: Systematic customer service screw overs = systematically ass hole passengers = systematically defensive and hostile FA's.

I restate: As always, there may be some additional facts not covered by the headline-loving media.

I restate that AA is not alone.

And finally, not_a restatement for me: Hmm, is there a specific problem with AA??? Seems like there's a trend here.
