  • Save the last Spantax CV990 Coronado

A few years ago, in 2011, a Spanish non-profit organization known as “Amics de Son Sant Joan” managed to protect the last Spantax'sConvair CV-990 Coronado (registered as EC-BZO) under the legal status of Catalogued Good, which was given by the regional government of Majorca. This was a major milestone, since never before an aircraft had such protection. However, in the very last days of year 2016, we received a notification from the Majorca's government which stated the agreement reached to initiate the administrative procedure in order to remove the status of catalogued good from the aircraft. Apparently, the regional government received several requests from the military airbase claiming the space occupied by the aircraft. So, the Majorca's government contacted a third party, who never had absolutely nothing to do with the process to declare the aircraft as a Catalogued Good, instead of getting in touch with us. It seems they requested the assessment of the current condition of the aircraft to that third party, for which it submitted two “technical” reports made by two aeronautical engineers. Such reports can only be called a botched job, made without any rigor and, in one of them, without using author owned pictures and without visiting the airplane. Since the association “Amics de Son Sant Joan” does not agree with this way of doing things, we recently filed a powerful 146 pages hierarchical appeal to the regional government of Majorca to try to revert the shaming situation.

A few days ago we started a Change.org petition to save our Coronado. Please help us with your signature
