      It's a vortex dissipator installed on a B737 with the so-called gravel kit. These tubes direct bleed air to prevent vortices that would normally suck gravel and debris into the engine.

                          I'm thinking this is relevant. Acronym and all.

                          Interestingly, although it is old, I guess it contains a mixture of metallic AND carbon composites.

                              Someone, not_me, gave the actual best answer for the 737 engine-mounted 'pitot tube'. It is a chem-trail-nanoprobe distribution nozzle.
