  • Loss of Cowling on United Flight 1175 - Over the top hype by the press

Passengers on a United flight from San Francisco to Honolulu, Hawaii, were shaken on Tuesday when one of the plane's engines began to fall apart mid-flight.
Photos and videos posted on social media show the parts peeling off the Boeing 777-222 aircraft's engine in mid-air, with its inner workings becoming steadily more exposed. "Scariest flight of my life," one passenger tweeted.

    ...

In a statement to Business Insider, the airline said:
"United flight 1175 travelling to Honolulu from San Francisco landed safely after the pilots called for an emergency landing because of a loss of the engine cowling (the covering of the engine). Our pilots followed all necessary protocols to safely land the aircraft. The aircraft taxied to the gate and passengers deplaned normally."
The worst part, they try to compare this incident to QANTAS Flight 32, if there had been an explosion on the plane the damage would have been very different.

Yes that tweet was great; even better when you see the picture of him holding up the passenger safety manual in the foreground with the engine in the background.

          It is right there:
          1) How to fasten and tighten the seat-belt.
          2) Brace position
          3) How to release the seat-belt
          4) Evacuation route
          5) Operation of the exists
