  • Air Asia X to quit Iran

    Malaysian LCC ends Tehran service from 23 April, earlier Thai announced they will pull out from 1 March but will operate charters for Iranian new year till April.

    AAX had served Tehran before but left due to stricter sanctions, resuming the route after those were lifted in 2016, subsidiary Thai AAX too had started Iran but ended ME ops including Muscat in Oman after six months.

    Tehran was also served by Singapore Airlines, JAL, CAAC and Korean Air Lines Cargo durinng 1970s.

    Korean Air were to start passenger flights there in 2017 but postponed it due to Trump proposing reimposing sanctions.

    China Southern will be the only East Asian carrier flying there.
