  • Advice for a noob

Hi! I'm 16 y/o and pretty interested in planes. The problem is, I'm completely clueless when it comes to identifying planes, naming the parts, engines etc which is something most of you guys here seem to do with ease xD.
Considering I'm looking to join the RAF, I'd appreciate any reccomendations on books I can read on all things aviation or other ways I can learn that worked for you.https://thegadgetwire.com/panda-helper/ https://thegadgetwire.com/tutuapp/ https://thegadgetwire.com/appvalley/

      Hey there,

Overall I think the best way you can learn aircraft identification is by taking an overall intrest in the different aircraft types and learning the differences between them visually.

If you are ever at an airport as such and you see an aircraft, find out what it is via apps like FlightRadar 24,
soon enough you will begin to find that if you see a 737 you know its a '737' and not an A320.ect (a bit like if your on a motorway and are able to know that one car is a Toyota Corolla and another is a Ford Transit).

Also make use of platforms like Youtube and websites like Jetphotos, these give you a visual representation of what an aircraft looks like beside the information such as the 'type' and 'manufacturer'

Hope this all helps and best or luck with RAF selection,
      Kindest Regards,

      Jordan W

I would absolutely use the recommended things by the other two people who replied. Visual learning really helped me since i grew up around major airport and as things got complex i shifted towards FlightRadar24. Keep at it
