  • My Workflow

    Photoshop CS6

    Open and crop image
    resize to 1600
recrop to permitted size and centre
zoom in and run neat image
    run auto tone/auto contrast/auto colour
    Run shadow/highlight
    adjust exposure
    Unsharp if needed.

    Save.

I know nothing of layers, histograms.

    Anyone suggest other workflows?

Countless workflows exist I'm sure; I even use different workflows depending on the image so to say one is correct over another is nearly impossible.

I would, however, recommend removing the two following steps from yours if you plan to upload any more images:

    - run auto tone/auto contrast/auto colour
    - Run shadow/highlight

The former because probably best to avoid auto-anything, and the latter because that's very likely to introduce editing artifacts that will result in an overprocessed rejection.

    In general, my steps are:

    open in ACR
    adjust exposure/WB/CA correction
    export as jpeg/tiff
    open jpeg/tiff
    level
    crop
    sharpen
    resize
    save as jpeg (if tiff)
    final exposure/sharpening adjustments if needed

Some of these steps could change in order or even be removed for certain images, as like I said, there is no uniformly 'correct' way to process an image.

I export to 16-bit tiffs sometimes when there is a smooth gradient in the sky, as they tend to show much less compression/banding in that area than if starting with an 8-bit jpeg. If that's not a potential issue, then straight to jpeg is fine.

Thanks I'll try that. btw the rejection photos are more revealing/detailed, do you use a special viewer?

      Thanks,

Not sure exactly what you mean, but images are screened at whatever resolution you upload them.

          Export to PS.
