  • Why no WN at MIA???

Anyone know why Southwest has no presence in Miami???

They could make serious bucks there!!!

        Why no WN at MIA???

Besides WN already being at FLL, there are two important factors that make FLl more favorable for WN. First, MIA has more traffic, meaning more risks of a delay, which is against WN's goal of a fat turnaround, and second, fees are also higher at MIA than in FLL.

Actually Southwest is one of the largest carriers at FLL. Plus FLL is sort of like the domestic terminal for the Dade/Broward coutny region. With the lower fees and better facilities it's a shoe-in for WN.

I guess this is pretty much what everyone else said, but...
            -FLL is lower cost
-MIA is too crowded (slow turnarounds)

Also, besides FL, how many LCCs can you name that fly to MIA?

MIA is a joke. The terminal sucks and there is no real layout. It's just expanding in random directions. And becides, FLL is only a few miles from Miami.

FLL-MIA iS about 30 minutes by car usually. Right now, because of AA's South American AND Carribean flights, AA overlapped WN as the number 2 carrier behind DL.

                        southwest 101

take a look at where WN flies. they avoid over-crowded, high fee airports. if you doubt why they stay away from MIA, why not throw in BOS, SFO, DEN, ATL, MSP, JFK, CLT, ORD, IAD, DCA, and so on. it's called smart business. that's why there's only one WN and why in the end there will only be one WN.

So many airlines have tried to copy them...and failed at their strategy. Not to say jetBlue has completely failed (which would be an outright lie), their main hub is at JFK. They do use secondary airports in California, such as ONT;LGB vs LAX, and OAK cs SFO, but no one does it (or has the ability to do it) like WN.

MIA isn't all that bad until the push. The main time seeming to come around 5 pm. Other than that, there didn't seem to be too many delays there, but that 5 pm push is a nightmare.

The last time I flew down there, ATC was giving out shortcuts on the arrival like they were candy bars.

9103 is right on about PHL. HOU is no picnic either. It can be a disaster at certain times of day. The only nice thing about that place is hearing "no speed restriction" on the way out. It sure is cool to be doing 306 at 2000 ft.

Every busy airport has some sort of presence from a LCC. Look at Atlanta and AirTran. They seem to just fine with all the ground stops, weather, and over-crowdedness of that place.

FLL is very busy as well, abut seems to work well with all the LCCs. Its all about scheduling.....

PHL won't be hear as bad once USAir is out of the picture.
