  • Lifeguard?

This was on the TWA 800 CVR. They were "lifeguard" and were only informed of that shortly before the fatal flight, somewhat miffing off the guy in the tower.

    What does "lifeguard" mean?

It means they were carrying urgent medical supplies or transplant organs. "Lifeguard" has since been replaced with "Medevac", so today they would be "Medevac TWA800". I've only done exactly one such flight in over 10 years.
