I have a cheap digital concepts flash. I have a bracket with it but it says it can also be used it Hot Shoe Mode. Can I only use this in the hot shoe position in the P,S,A, M modes? If I put it on auto the camera flah pops upand hits the external flash and obviuosly neither flash works.
I have to admit I don't think I've ever actually used Auto mode on my 30D, but I just tried it with my Sigma EF-500 external flash and it worked perfectly. If yours doesn't work in Auto, try using Program instead. The camera will automatically select the aperture and shutter speed for you but you have control over ISO and white balance.
