  • MEA & Qatar Airways sign code-share agreement

MEA and Qatar Airways have signed a code-share agreement on the Doha (DOH) - Beirut (BEY) - Doha (DOH) segment.

MEA can now provide its customers service to Doha. MEA Cedar Miles members and Qatar Airways Privilage Club members can now collect reward miles on the entire networks of both airlines.

The code-share will begin March 28.

Qatar Airways operates a daily A320-200 and in the summer operates 2 daily flights (1 A321 and 1 A320).

    Below is the current schedule:

    Doha (DOH) - Beirut (BEY)

    Beirut (BEY) - Doha (DOH)

On May 1st and September 30, Qatar Airways will upgrade this flight to an A321. Between June 25 and September 30, Qatar Airways will operate a 2nd daily flight operated by an A320 late at night, QR428/429. MEA will also code-share on this 2nd flight as ME439/438.

MEA now has two code-share agreements. In addition to this new code-share agreement, MEA code-shares' on Air France's daily 777-200ER flight from Paris and will code-share on their additional Saturday 747-400 service being operated for the summer season.

Air France code-shares on MEA's daily A321 flight and daily A330-200 flight to Paris. Air France's Beirut flight and MEA uses CDG's Terminal 2F.

As a result, the two airlines together operate 3 daily flight to Paris (2:05AM MEA A321, 8:05AM MEA A330, 3:55PM AF 772ER)providing endless connections throughout Europe and to North & South America and Africa for MEA customers through the Paris hub.

    This is MEA's network now:

In the past, MEA has code-shared with Malaysia Airlines on Beirut - Kuala Lumpur - Sydney. The route was cut after 9/11 but brought back in April 2002, but the code-share was never resumed. Malaysia Airlines currently operates 3x weekly A330-200 from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) with a stop in Dubai (DXB). Hopefully one day in the future, the two airlines will resume the code-share and the route will become non-stop from Kuala Lumpur again.

MEA was supposed to code-share on Cathay Pacific's Hong Kong (HKG) - Dubai (DXB) route, but those plans were scrapped as a result of SARs.

In addition to this new code-share agreement with Qatar Airways, MEA has teamed up with Lebanon's 2nd largest bank, Banque Audi to provide a credit card which MEA customers can use to collect frequent flyer miles everytime it's used.

Two cards are offered, the silver card and the gold card.

With the silver card, you earn one mileage point for every $1.50 spent and with the gold card, you earn one mileage point for every $1.00 spent.

Check out this page for more information on the card:

Initially, only Visa and MasterCard will be offered, but it will eventually be expanded to include others.

It's offered to Lebanese residents only.

It's good to see MEA greatly improving its Cedar Miles program for its customers by this new code-share with Qatar Airways and this new credit card!

Good for both airlines - by the way, does MEA have any interest in resuming BAH through a codeshare (or is GF seen as a strategic competitor)?
