Just to be clear, I'm not against ALL the news releases. But I do think that some discretion could be used in deciding what items to post... Should an airline order new planes or announce significant service expansion or a major new alliance, you bet it should be posted on the forum - because forum members will want to discuss it. But the fictitious new coffee brand on flights to SYR story or the one additional weekly flight to somewhere no one has heard of on a B1900 just isn't (in my opinion) likely to start a productive dialogue unless there’s some specific discussion question asked as part of the posting. Some of them just aren't likely to be very interesting to many folks.
As an additional gripe, if someone posts 10 or 15 of these 'news' items in a row, that’s all that will appear on the first page of the forum… Potentially more active discussions will get pushed off the screen or even to the second page… and we all know how unlikely it is for a thread to come back from the second page…
Really it's no big deal though, and while I have a feeling there may be a few other forum members who agree with me on this, it would appear from this thread (and the other one I started) that most don’t. And I’m fine with that. Thanks to all by the way for discussing the issue in a generally mature manner.

I'm fine with real news, I post alot myself. BUT who cares about ____ Airline adding 2 daily flights between ABC and XYZ??? To me, that's not newsworthy, it's a press release from the airline PR department just for airline publicity. If they're adding service to a city they haven't served at all before, then THAT is news. Make sense?

Change "___" to "Southwest" and you know how I feel.

I agree completely with PT737SWA. News releases are good for the forum, but something such as AirTran increasing frequency between BWI and DFW is most definately NOT needed.

There 2 types of news release: major news, and the flight increase/new destinations...etc.
I don't believe someone said no more news release on this forum.
Summarize is the KEYWORD. This is due to copyright reasons.

I say only if it is important news. Every time an airline increases the frequency of flights to a podunk airport, we dont need to hear about it. Things like airlines getting a new aircraft type are what we want to hear about. Basically...before posting something, ask your self "will anyone else give a rats ass about this?" I would say a majority of things posted would fail this test, but some of the things pass.

I must agree that I couldn't care less about US domestic sector flights in regard to them increasing or decreasing frequency. I do like to know about international flights though. But then again if there is a news story about Southwest, I don't click it.YBBN - James
