  • Boeing outlines 777 freighter studies

There's an article from Flight International (23-29MAR, 2004) about Boeing's study plan for 777F.

The 777F will be based on -200LR variant with payload up to 20000kg (44000lb). It is designated as 777-200LRXF, with overall payload capability betweeb 100000kg and 110000kg.

EVA Airways and Lufthansa Cargo have both shown interest in 777F.

sounds like a good idea. i mean, heck, they have freighter versions of every other type of their planes so why not the 777? would be pretty neat to see.

I definitely like the idea. I hope this doesn't mean the end of MD-11F service with the major carriers.

Sooner or later, this may happen by 10 years or so. I would not be surprised this new variant will initially be targeted to MD11Fs operators not willing to upgrade on 744Fs but ready to invest premiums for up to date stuff.

I hope the Mad Dogs stick around- they're great jets- where way ahead of their time. Keep in mind there are still DC-3s, DC-8s, 707s, 727s, etc. flying cargo; so I think the M11 might be around for at least 10 years like uy707 mentioned.

An excellent idea on Boeing's part. A freighter with the payload of the MD-11 which could fly Europe-Asia or Transpacific non-stop is bound to be a popular one with the major freight carriers.

Anybody know what the range of a fully-loaded M11F is?

The Range of a fully loaded MD11F is around 3800nm (GE engines), with around 85,000kg payload, where a 777-200LR would (my own extrapolation of data) would travel around 5500nm with 85t of payload or be able to carry full payload of 100-110t over 4000nm.
