  • 6-Hour Transit time in Gatwick… What to do?

I was given an itinerary for a flight to Cochin India (COK) from EWR-LGW on CO and EK from LGW-DXB-COK.

The itinerary: May 26 CO 0028
    Depart EWR: 8:30PM
    Arrival LGW: 8:15AM +1 day
The Emirates flight leaves LGW at 2:15PM on May 27.

This will be my first time in Gatwick, and if I end up getting this flight, I would like to leave the airport and see London…

I have only been to London once, and that was when a friend was living in the UK. She no longer is. And this was many years ago.

Am I able to leave the airport, or do I have to stay in? Do I have to collect my luggage or will the airline handle it? If I’ve to collect it, then I might have to store them for a bit, If I can go outside.

If I can leave the airport, where am I to go? Lol

OR should I just wonder the North and South Terminals, and stay in one of the bars until EK Check-In?

    All responses will be helpful.

LGW is about 23-28 miles south of center-city. I haven't been there since '01 but I remember leaving the north terminal(DL) and then left out of the South terminal(US) There is a shopping area in the south terminal after you pass through security but it would be more fun to go into the city just make sure you leave the city about 3 hours before your flight in case of traffic.

You must be able to leave the airport, as CO fly to the South terminal and EK from the North. To get between them you have to go through immigration and therefore will enter the UK.

The train station is in the south terminal and you can get to London in 30 minutes on the Gatwick Express http://www.gatwickexpress.co.uk/ or the slower (40 minutes) but cheaper South Central or Thameslink services http://www.southcentraltrains.co.uk/ http://www.thameslink.co.uk/.

South Central or the Gatwick Express will get you into Victoria station which is very close to Buckingham Palace and also the Houses of Parliament. Thameslink will get you to various stations such as London Bridge near Tower Bridge and the Tower of London.

        Come visit Cambridge
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete
