    Re:

The world's largest airline is American. It took over that position when it bought TWA in 2001. United is the second largest.

    Happy Flying!

      1) American
      2) United
      3) Delta
      4) Northwest
      5) Southwest
      6) Continental
      7) US Airways

The first four are also in same order of worlds largest, not sure about where the other sit, I think British Airways is the worlds 6th largest airline with Continental falling in at 7

What's this measured by? PAX carried? Flights? Fleet? Employees?

Does anyone know the ranking by fleet value? (NOTE: not number of planes, the value of them)

US Airways is a lot farther back.
Look at their routemap. like 90% of their flights stay east of the Mississippi.

Guys he asked about the United States

Southwest has the most daily departures in the US at over 2800.
Southwest also carries the most passengers within the domestic US.

                    1) Easy to do when you have virtually 15 minute turns

                    2) That is a skewed count, if a passenger flies seven segments in one day, the statistics show 7 pax. So 1=7 in this case. So do they REALLY carry the most pax?

Well the D.O.T. says it counts and they're the ones who keep score on this thing. I do see your point though.

Well, if you go by the number of pax carried, AA is #1 followed by DL on 2. UA is still on 3, but is short of being passed by WN. NW is #5, CO #6 and US (still) #7. #8 and #9 would be HP and ALK, though I don't know in which order, and JB would be #10.

In terms of passengers carried within the US, would not be surprised to hear of this ranking
                          # 1- AA
                          # 2 -DL
                          # 3 -WN probably ahead of UA or maybe in a tie

RPK's (RPM's for Americans) is the only count that counts.
