  • Why wasn't the 767-400ER popular?

Does anyone know why wasn't the 767-400ER popular? since only two companies have it, and they seem to be quite pleased with it. Personally I love this plane, it is as soothing as a 777-200ER but in a smaller size which makes it more comfy!!

    Regards

I think one of the reason was because it cannot fit two LD2 at the undercarriage side by side? Whereas the A330 is able to do this job.

Also the 767 series is getting old and may not be as fuel efficient as the A330s?

The 764ER was initially intended to be a somewhat custom order for which Delta, Continental, and American (who never ordered) would replace their trijets.

Another model, the 764ERX was to also debut... featuring modified wings, increased fuel capacity, and stronger CF6 engines (which it would have shared with the similarly defunct 747X).

THe 764ERX was cancelled the same month that the 747X went the way of all flesh, and its only three customers (KQ, ILFC, and GECAS) either converted the order to 777s (the former) or cancelled them outright (the latter two).

As a result, that left only the 764ER... which has lost every battle it's ever faced against the A332 (excepting of course, DL & CO) due to its inability to carry LD3s in tandem, as well as its relatively short range.

            compartmentalized cargo containers.

The aforementioned information is however incorrect: the 764ER can carry LD2s in tandem, but it cannot carry LD3s side-by-side... which the A332 can.

And well, can the 767-300ER carry LD-3's?
Aren't there any performance problems with the 764ER

It's a type of cargo container that goes into the belly cargohold of passenger plane or main deck cargo hold of freighter.

Different types of cargo container have different size and shapes.

Cargo can also packed into pallets instead of into containers.

I think another reason 764 is not popular is that its range is less than the range of A332 or even the 763.

not for the market segment for which they were intended.

All 767 cannot carry LD3s. But then there were no real competitors for 767-200/-300 when it came out. A310 can only fly 9000km, which is 25% less than that of 767-200. Besides, airlines are still not confident in Airbus at that time.

                      Wrong.

                          OK!! Now I get it.
So I guess 764ER should be intended to fly high density domestic routes, just like the ones UA flyes with the 772ER. But I guess MX could get them for International routes since they don't need palets and stuff

                          Thanks alot

Hope to see a MX 764ER flying with London writing on its tale!!

The 764ER would struggle immensely on such a routing...

...heck, CO sometimes has to fuel-stop in San Francisco on its New York to Honolulu run.
