  • Air Canada CEO: Will place $6 billion order for 65 planes before end of June

CBC reports that the CEO of Air Canada confirmed in an interview that the airline will make an order for 65 aircraft to replace 45 Boeings and 20 Airbuses before the end of June. The order will be about US$6 billion and the CEO said that the bids from Boeing and Airbus are both attractive.

Very good news!! I heard "rumors" back in the winter that AC would be getting 787s from a friend in Montreal, hopefully the Boeing deal comes through. Would also like to see the B777 in AC colours .

New aircraft will come over 10+ years, selling 767/A330/A340 fleet. That is, if boeing wins it . Its all about selling current assets while they are still in demand.

You read the gorizons about AC being intrested in the 777 as well as the 787?

What Airbus planes would they need to replace? Some older 320's?
The early 762's and 763's are disapiering.
                  -Kevin

We may finally see the end of Gimli Glider in the near future

Apparently AC will not split this order between manufactures -- it will be all an Boeing or Airbus to replace all (if Boeing) or nearly all (if Airbus) of AC's widebodies. If it's Boeing, AC would eventually operate 773ERs, 772LR, and 787s. If it's Airbus, it would 346s, 345s, 330/350s plus keeping 330s and the 345s. Bybacks of existing AC widebodies are a possibility and a plan to upgrade 767s for the short term would also be included.

Boeing has been dominating this year. It's time for an Airbus order again.
                            especialy for the A350.

...a plane which isn't launched, and very well may never see the light of day.
