I think it was the engine's cover blew off because some of the mini parts were missing and therefore couldn't hold the heavy metal.

I've heard that they didn't close te engine cowels (the outer "shell" of the engine) and they got ripped off the engine during takeoff/flight.
Seems the most logical explenation as there is no (visible) damage to the engine itself.

Big deal , it's a engine hood which went out, big deal again, I know of 707s and DC.8s which were either shelled or lost wing portions but still landed safely ....

Here a link to the NTSB report on this incident.
The cowling separated from the aircraft and bent the front of the engine pylon.
